About The Founder
Gracie Schatz began her cooking career at the Urban Farm at the University of Oregon where she learned to grow and cook organic vegetables.
As her curiosity and hunger expanded, she found an internship at a farm in Italy and lived there for a year, learning to make prosciutto, wine, cheese and rustic Tuscan food. Upon returning to the states, she was hired at Fatted Calf in San Francisco and eventually managed Avedano’s Butcher Shop in Bernal Heights.
After three years in San Francisco she was ready to get her hands back in the dirt and moved to Nevada City, California to help run an educational farm for Sierra Harvest while working the wood-fired pizza oven at Three Forks Brewery and raising her own heritage pigs. She returned to San Francisco to work at Cala and Molina restaurants and began to teach cooking classes at 18 Reasons, a non profit community cooking school.
Returning to Eugene was a choice made out of love for the Willamette Valley. She is here to stay and hopes to not only connect the community to their food, but to empower a new generation of young chefs, help people from all cultures preserve and share their flavors and traditions and provide a safe space where all people can come and feel nourished and inspired.
